When to use the Underline Text Generator
Like strikethrough, this works by inserting a combining mark — U+0332, the combining low line — after every character, rather than by substituting the letters. Your text stays readable to search engines and screen readers, at the cost of doubling its character count.
One caution from typography: on the web, underlining means "this is a link". Underlining ordinary words in a bio or a post reliably causes people to try tapping them. For emphasis in running text, italics have been the correct answer since the invention of the printing press; underlining was a typewriter workaround for the fact that typewriters had no italic.
The line also collides with descenders. Letters such as g, j, p, q, and y hang below the baseline, and the combining underline is drawn straight through them.
