Upside Down Text Generator
Flip text upside down online. Generate ǝpᴉsdn uʍop text to copy and paste into Instagram, Discord, and X. Free and instant.
Example — type your own text above to convert it.
An upside down text generator replaces each character with a Unicode lookalike that appears rotated 180 degrees, then reverses the order so the result reads correctly when flipped. Pasting ǝpᴉsdn uʍop text produces the illusion that your message has been turned over.

When to use the Upside Down Text Generator
Flipped text is a novelty, and unlike the other generators here it is not one alphabet but a scavenger hunt. There is no upside-down Latin block in Unicode, so each character is approximated by an unrelated glyph that happens to resemble it inverted: the lowercase a becomes ɐ, a turned a from the phonetic alphabet; u becomes an n; W becomes M.
Two consequences follow. First, the match is imperfect — several letters have no convincing inverted twin and are left as-is, so a flipped sentence never looks quite uniform. Second, because the characters are borrowed from a dozen different scripts, font support is patchy and the letters are announced as gibberish by screen readers.
The reversal matters as much as the substitution: after each glyph is swapped, the whole string is reversed, so that reading it from the far end gives you the original word.
Frequently asked questions
How does upside down text actually work?
Each letter is swapped for an unrelated Unicode character that looks like it rotated 180 degrees, then the whole string is reversed so it reads correctly when flipped.
Why do some letters stay the same?
Letters such as l, o, s, x, and z look the same inverted, and a few others have no convincing turned counterpart anywhere in Unicode.
Can I flip it back?
Running flipped text through the generator a second time restores most of it, but characters that had no inverted twin will not come back correctly.
